What is your Day Master in BaZi?
Your Day Master (日主) is the Heavenly Stem of the day you were born. It is the single most important symbol in your BaZi chart because it represents your core self. Its element — Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water — and its Yin/Yang polarity describe your fundamental nature, and every other pillar is interpreted by how it relates to your Day Master.
Why it matters most
In BaZi, relationships between elements (generating, controlling, being generated, being controlled) only make sense relative to a reference point. That reference is your Day Master. It's how the same day-pillar in the sky means one thing for a Fire person and another for a Water person.
Whether your Day Master is ‘strong’ or ‘weak’ — how much support it has from the rest of the chart — shapes whether you thrive by initiating or by receiving support, and which elements are favorable for you.
The ten Day Masters
There are ten possible Day Masters: each of the five elements in a Yang and a Yin form. Yang Wood (甲) is like a tall tree; Yin Wood (乙) like a flexible vine. Yang Fire (丙) is the sun; Yin Fire (丁) a candle. The polarity colors how the element expresses itself.
FAQ
+How do I find my Day Master?
It's the Heavenly Stem of your birth-day pillar, calculated from your birth date. Aura Path computes it automatically when you build your chart.
+Does a strong Day Master mean I'm a strong person?
No — ‘strong’ and ‘weak’ are technical terms about elemental balance, not character judgments. A weak Day Master often thrives brilliantly with the right environment and support.
